Self Preservation Becomes Easier with Cheap Public Liability Insurance
by adminThe art of self preservation becomes much easier with cheap public liability insurance. Everyone makes mistakes. Regardless of whether you are young or old, a business person or not, you are bound to make a mistake somewhere down the line. Unfortunately people aren’t that understanding and in a country where people make a lot of money from suing in court, it makes sense to be able to preserve your interests. Obviously you can’t really stop people from making mistakes when it comes to making decisions and you can’t stop people from suing you either but you can protect yourself from those people and your own mistakes.
Public liability insurance is a type of insurance that protects you and your business from lawsuits. The term public liability talks about the right to sue, whereas on the other hand public liability protects you from the act of being sued. An insurance carrier has to defend you in the case of public liability though this type of insurance is still bound by its own rules. Similar to how a typical insurance policy would have clauses and the parties involved would be protected by the terms within the insurance policy; this is how public liability insurance would work as well.
Providers of public liability insurance are required to defend you and as such it is their duty to protect you. The main responsibilities of your insurance carrier are as follows:
- To ensure defence – Your public liability insurance provider is responsible for defending you in the event that you are sued. When you are sued you have to your insurer a copy of the filed complaint and include a letter explaining the circumstances. You should also make sure you send the insurance company a demand to be defended. The insurer chooses to either defend you or not but if they don’t they also face the policy of being sued. Of course, if the case isn’t within the terms of the insurance policy they must also state this as such
- To ensure payment – Provided that your case is within the actual policy clause the insurer has to pay for all the amounts you are held accountable for based on the limits of course of the policy you have signed up for
- To settle when needed – There are cases where it makes more sense to settle and this is particularly true if the settlement amount is greater than the actual coverage of the policy. As an insurance company the duty of your insurer is to make sure that they protect you and thus are required to do what is best for the case at hand
So you see, as an insured you are protected by the laws which bind public liability insurance. At the same time you are protected from the consequences of public liability lawsuits. Given these factors and the multiple things that go wrong, it just makes more sense to get yourself cheap public liability insurance as a self preservation and protective measure.
